Overview of vShield logs (1026255)

This article provides an overview of the logs in vShield.


Note: VMware Technical Support routinely request diagnostic information from you when a support request is handled. This diagnostic information contains product specific logs and configuration files from the host on which the product is run. The information is gathered using a specific script or tool for each product.
Detailed audit logs are recorded on vShield. To view the logs:
  1. Log in to the web interface at https://vShield_IP_Address/.
  2. Click Settings & Report on the left hand side of your browser.
  3. Click Audit Logs.

To display vShield Edge log files from the command line:

  1. Log in as admin with the password default .
  2. Run the command:

    show tech-support
To collect vShield log files using the web interface:
  1. Log in to the web interface at https://vShield_IP_Address/.
  2. Click Settings & Report on the left had side of your browser
  3. Click Configuration.
  4. Click Support and then on Initiate
  5. Click Download (next to Download Tech Support Logs) to download the logs.

To download the logs:

  1. Log in to the Web interface https://vShield/vShield_IP_Address.
  2. Click Datacenters on the left side of the browser.
  3. Click Network Virtualization.
  4. Double-click the Edge device for which you want to generate logs.
  5. Click Actions.
  6. Click Download Tech Support Logs.

    Note: The logs are text files compressed with gzip and contain these information:
    • System and network information
    • Linux, system, and tomcat log files
