Creating a Microsoft Windows Vista Beta Virtual Machine for Workstation 5.5.2 (5805328)

  • 0 Ratings

Currently, some builds of Microsoft Windows Vista Beta, including Beta Build CTP 5472, cannot be installed as a guest operating system in a Workstation 5.5.2 virtual machine. Work is in progress on this problem. In the meantime, you can work around this problem as described below.

To create a Microsoft Windows Vista Beta virtual machine in Workstation 5.5.2:
  1. Create a new virtual machine in Workstation.
  2. Before installing Microsoft Windows Vista Beta in the virtual machine, add the following lines to the virtual machine's configuration (.vmx) file:
    svga.maxWidth = "640"
    svga.maxHeight = "480"
  3. Install Microsoft Windows Vista Beta in the virtual machine.
  4. Install VMware Tools.
  5. When the VMware Tools installation is complete, remove the lines you added to the configuration file in step 2.
