VIO Guest Images are attempting to write boot log to ttyS0, but the serial interface is not available on the VM (2151564)

Symptoms

Guest Images are attempting to write boot log to ttyS0, but the serial interface is not available on the VM.

Cause

VIO 3.x and earlier, serial console output is not enabled.

Resolution

VMware Integrated Openstack is working as designed. When booting an image that requires serial console support, use libguestfs to edit the grub.cfg and remove all references to “console=ttyS0”.  Libguestfs provides a suite of tools for accessing and editing VM disk images.  Once installed the “guest mount” command-line tool can be used to mount qcow2 based images.  By default, the disk image mounts in read-write mode.  More info on Libguestfs here.

# guestmount -a xxx-cloudimg-amd64.img -m /dev/sda1 /mnt

# vi /mnt/boot/grub/grub.cfg       **remove the  console=ttyS0 reference

# umount mnt
