Graphical distortions when using Remote Console through vRA 7.2 after vCenter 6.5 update (2151496)

Symptoms

After upgrading to vCenter Server 6.5, you experience these symptoms in your vRealize Automation environment:
  • When you use Remote Console session through vRA 7.2 to access the virtual machine, you experience graphical distortions.
  • In the debug logs, you see the entries similar to:

Cause

 WebMKS 2.1 is required for Remote console to work on vRA7.2 & vSphere 6.5 combination. This article explains the steps to apply the patch which updates the WebMKS version to 2.1.
 
Apply this patch in these scenarios:
  • Graphical distortion while accessing virtual machine Remote Console through vRA.
  • Language support required in Remote Console.
 

Resolution

To resolve this issue, apply the patch 2151496_patch.zip attached to this KB article.
 
Prerequisites:
  1. Backup your vRealize environment.
  2. Take necessary snapshots of the virtual machines.
To apply the patch on vRealize Automation 7.2:
  1. Download the 2151496_patch.zip and extract it to the C: drive on IaaS Web Server.

    Note: You receive these files when you extract the 2151496_patch.zip file.
    1. patchfromvRAv73.zip
    2. install-patch.ps1
    3. revert-patch.ps1

  2. Open PowerShell as admin and change directory to cd c:\.

  3. Run the install-patch.ps1 script by running this command:

    C:\> .\install-patch.ps1 C:\patchfromvRAv73.zip

  4. Click Enter when you prompted to restart the services.

  5. Repeat these actions on all IaaS Web Servers.

  6. Clear the browser cache before you log in to vRA.
 
Rollback steps:
  1. Open PowerShell as admin and change directory to cd c:\.

  2. Run the revert-patch.ps1 script by running this command:

    C:\> .\revert-patch.ps1 C:\patchfromvRAv73.zip

  3. Click Enter when you prompted to restart the services.

  4. Repeat these actions on all IaaS Web Servers.

  5. Clear the browser cache before you log in to vRA.
