Computer-based Global Policy Objects (GPOs) that require a reboot to take effect are not applied on instant clones. (2150495)

Some Computer-based GPOs are processed at Windows startup. With instant clones, clones are forked from a quiesced internal VM (master VM) in a running state, and never go through a power on operation.  Therefore, computer based policies that requite reboot are never applied.

Limit the use of computer-based policy settings where possible by using user-based GPO settings using loopback processing, if required.

Complete the following steps to apply computer-based GPOs that require a reboot on instant clones:

  1. Create or update the computer-based policy settings.
  2. Use the existing master VM or create a new one in vCenter Server. Ensure it is in the correct OU to receive the GPO and power it on.
  3. Run gpupdate to ensure the new group policy is applied.
  4. Reboot the master VM in vCenter Server to ensure that the policy is applied.
  5. Shutdown the master VM in vCenter Server and take a new snapshot of it in vCenter Server.
  6. In Horizon 7, push the new image to update an existing pool or create a new pool of instant clones using the master VM in vCenter Server and the new snapshot.  Your GPOs will be applied to the instant clones.

·      Master virtual machine (VM) – A single VM source that is used to deploy a pool of virtual desktops or farm of RDS hosts. A master virtual machine is sometimes referred to as a master image, desktop image, or golden image
