In Enterprise Center, user cannot reserve any Virtual Machine (2150384)

Symptoms

  • In Enterprise Center, user cannot reserve any Virtual Machine, as after creating/cloning new VM, it does not appear in "Reserve" text box when user types name of virtual machine.
  • After creating or cloning virtual machine in vCenter Server, they are not displayed in "Imported Desktops" pool.
  • In the desktone.log file in Resource Manager, similar logs are seen:

    ERROR [com.desktone.hypervisor.service.impl.vmware.AbstractVMwareHypervisor]-[http-8443-8] Unable to retrieve compute pools
    java.lang.NullPointerException
    ERROR [com.desktone.vmgr.desktopmgr.DesktopManagerService]-[http-8443-8] Unable to retrieve the compute pool list for host manager xxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx

Cause

vCenter Server contains non-responding hosts and that blocks inventory update for the tenant organizations in VMware Horizon DaaS 6.1.5 release.  As a result, any newly created/cloned VM in the Reserve text box or Imported Desktops pool does not show.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, 
  1. Remove hosts which are in  Not Responding state from vCenter Server inventory.
  2. Navigate to Enterprise Service Center > service grid > Resources > Compute Resources section in Enterprise Center.
  3. Click Update Compute Resources.
