Logging into the vSphere Web Client using an FQDN containing .swf fails (2150374)

Symptoms

  • Logging into the vSphere Web Client using an FQDN containing .swf fails.
  • Logging into the vSphere Web Client using the shortname succeeds.
  • This issue is not seen in the vSphere Client (HTML) in vSphere 6.5.
  • You see the error:

    Error 2048 : "Unable to connect to vSphere Web Client. Please contact your administrator to fix the issue"

  • In the vsphere_client_virgo.log file, there are entries similar to:

    [YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MM:SS] [INFO ] http-bio-9090-exec-10 70000478 100002 ###### org.springframework.flex.servlet.MessageBrokerHandlerAdapter Channel endpoint amf received request.
    [YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MM:SS] [INFO ] http-bio-9090-exec-10 70000478 100002 ###### com.vmware.vise.util.logging.LogServiceImpl [Flex|AppErrorHandler]loaderURL = https://vcenter1.ad.swfwmd.net/vsphere-client/UI.swf/[[DYNAMIC]]/39, url = https://<name.swf***.net/vsphere-client/UI.swf/[[DYNAMIC]]/39, swfVersion = 18

    Note: This log excerpt is an example. Date, time, and environmental variables may vary depending on your environment.

Resolution

This is a known issue affecting vCenter Server and vCenter Server Appliance 6.5.

Currently, there is no resolution.

To work around this issue, use one of these options:
  • Login using the IP address of the vCenter Server.
  • Use the vCenter Servers shortname when entering the user information in the vSphere Web Client.
  • In vSphere 6.5, use the the HTML client.
