  • Network or Sub-net creation from openstack failing with a message in the log stating cannot find resgroup-<id> .
  • Recovery of controller via viocli recover command fail with:

    TASK: [neutron-server | start neutron-server on other nodes] *******************
    failed: [] => {"enlapsed": 300, "failed": true}
    msg: Timeout when waiting for
  • Upgrade fail at 68% configuring neutron

This happen when the NSX resource group changes id (has been deleted and recreated).

VIO needs to be updated with the new resource group id.

You can check the current configured resource group configured in VIO with this command:

viocli show -i | grep resgroup
nsxv_resource_pool_moref = resgroup-541
To check the actual value used in NSXv:
  1.  Log in to the vSphere Web Client.
  2. Go to host and cluster.
  3. Locate the resource pool used for nsx edges and select it.
  4. look at the end of the URL, you should find : resgroup-<id>.
If both ID are not matching, then you need to update VIO with the value found in vSphere.

To work around tis issue, override the value in omsdb:

  1. Log in to the Openstack Management Server (OMS) using ssh session.
  2. Check if this file exists by running this command:

    Note: If the values in the /opt/vmware/vio/custom/custom.yml file contains false/not present/starts with # character, contact VMware Support and include the VIO log bundle.

  3. If the file exists, add this entry:

    nsxv_datastore_moref: resgroup-<id>

  4. Run this command:

    viocli deployment configure
