Using kiosk mode clients in a Cloud Pod Architecture environment (2148888)

  • 0 Ratings

Details

In a Cloud Pod Architecture environment, the Connection Server instances in the pod federation do not share information about clients in kiosk mode.

Solution

Beginning with Horizon 7 version 7.0.1, you can use the vdmexport command with the -k option to export only the kiosk mode client entries from View LDAP. The vdmexport command writes the kiosk mode client entries to an LDIF file that you specify. You can then use the vdmimport command to import the exported data to another Connection Server instance in the pod federation. You can import and export the LDIF files in unencrypted or encrypted format.

Prerequisites:
  • Locate the vdmexport.exe and vdmimport.exe command executable files. By default, these files are installed with Connection Server in the C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware View\Server\tools\bin directory.
  • Log in to the Connection Server instance as a user in the Administrators role. You must be logged in as a user in the Administrators role to import and export configuration data.

Procedure:

To transfer the kiosk mode client entries by using an unencrypted LDIF file:

  1. To export kiosk mode client entries with verbatim output, type the following command at the command prompt:

    vdmexport -k -v >kioskentries.ldf

  2. To import kiosk mode client entries to another pod, type the following command at the command prompt:

    vdmimport -f kioskentries.ldf

To transfer the kiosk mode client entries by using an encrypted LDIF file:

  1. To export kiosk mode client entries with encrypted output, type the following command at the command prompt:

    vdmexport -k >kioskentries-encrypted.ldf

  2. To import encrypted kiosk mode client entries to another pod, type the following commands at the command prompt:

    vdmimport -d -f kioskentries-encrypted.ldf -p secret >kioskentries.ldf
    vdmimport -f kioskentries.ldf
