Symptoms

Virtual machine deployed on Hyper-V in the Windows Server 2016 ESXi VM fails to power on.

Cause

This issue occurs when the Windows Server 2016 virtual machine running on ESXi has hardware version 10 and the ESXi host machine has Intel Processors.

Note: This issue was not found when ESXi host machine has AMD processors.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, upgrade the hardware version of the Windows Server 2016 virtual machine to hardware version 11. For more information, see Upgrading a virtual machine to the latest hardware version (multiple versions) (1010675).
