Auto Deploy UI is not visible in vSphere Web Client after upgrading to vSphere 6.5 (2148038)

  • 3 Ratings

After upgrading to vCenter Server 6.5 from a previous version in a vSphere Auto-Deploy environment, the Auto-Deploy UI is not visible in the vSphere Web Client.

The vSphere Auto-Deploy UI requires that both the Auto-Deploy and Image Builder services are started. After an upgrade, only the vSphere Auto-Deploy service may be started automatically.

To resolve this issue manually start the Image Builder service and set the startup type to Automatic.
  1. Log into the vSphere Web Client as administrator@vsphere.local.
  2. Navigate to Administration > System Configuration > Nodes > vCenter Server node > Related Objects.
  3. Right-Click the Image Builder Service and select "Edit Startup Type...".
  4. Choose "Automatic" and click OK.
  5. Select the Image Builder Service and choose Start.

If Auto-Deploy was not previously in use the Auto-Deploy Service may also need to be set to Automatic.

  6. Log out of the vSphere Web Client and log back in and the Auto Deploy icon should now be visible.
