NSX Manager CPU consistently at 100% with ARP snooping enabled (2147907)

  • 2 Ratings

Symptoms

  • NSX Manager CPU consistently is at 100% or is regularly spiking to 100%.
  • Adding extra resources to NSX Manager appliance does not make a difference.
  • Running the show process monitor command in NSX Manager Command Line Interface (CLI) displays the Java process that is consuming the highest CPU cycles.
  • Running the show filesystems command on the NSX Manager CLI shows the /common directory as having a very high percentage in use, such as > 90%.
  • Some of the configuration changes times out (it can sometimes take 50 minutes to time out) and are not effective.

Cause

The issue occurs due to the existence of virtual machines with multiple IP configured on the same interface of the virtual machine which leads to the NSX manager receiving a huge number of DiscoveredVnicIPInfo updates to update the NSX Manager with the recent discovered IP over these virtual machines through the ARP snooping mechanism.
