Cannot Create Custom Group Using Adapters That Make vRealize Operations Manager REST API Calls (2147670)

  • 0 Ratings

After installing a management pack that includes an adapter which makes vRealize Operations Manager REST API calls, the process to create a custom group from within the adapter fails with an exception error. The error indicates a problem with the Java language bindings of the vRealize Operations Manager REST API. This currently applies to several management packs installed in vRealize Operations Manager 6.4.

If you think this issue applies to an adapter in your management pack, contact your VMware Ecosystems Services Partner Program Manager.

Due to a conflict between .jar files, certain adapters do not invoke the REST APIs related to custom groups correctly.  To work around the problem, edit a file to remove the code that represents the classpath for the platform-api-model.jar file.

This procedure addresses the problem for the vRealize Operations Manager Linux versions only, such as SUSE Linux Enterprise Server Virtual Appliance and Red Hat Enterprise Linux installations.

Perform the following steps on all nodes, including the remote collector nodes.
  1. Using SSH or RDP, log in to the node as root.
  2. Stop the collector process: service vmware-vcops stop collector
  3. Change to the collector directory: cd $VCOPS_BASE/user/conf/collector
  4. Open the wrapper.conf file in a text editor.
    1. Search for the line with platform-api-model*.jar such as*.jar
    2. Comment out the line.
    3. Search for the line with validation-api-*-Final.jar such as
    4. Comment out the line
  5. Start the collector process: service vmware-vcops start collector
