Resetting the vCloud Usage Meter 3.5 root password (2147190)

This article provides steps to reset the vCloud Usage Meter 3.5 root password.

Solution

To reset the vCloud Usage Meter 3.5 root password:

1. Restart the vCloud Usage Meter 3.5 appliance.
2. At the GNU GRUB boot menu select SLES12 and press e to edit.


3. Go to the line that starts with linux and append init=/bin/bash at the end of the line.


4. Press Ctrl-x or F10 to boot.
5. After the system boots, enter the below commands in the console:

mount -o remount,rw /
passwd

6. Enter the new password and re-enter the same password to confirm it.
7. Reset the vCloud Usage Meter 3.5 appliance by going to VM » Power » Reset.

Once the appliance is booted up you can login with the new root password.

Note: Take a snapshot of the vCloud Usage Meter 3.5 appliance for safety.
