Tips and Tricks:
Troubleshooting Dashboards with no results:
  • Confirm the time range is accurate at the top of the Dashboard page.
  • Confirm that agents are passing Events and that the vRA hosts are part of the correct Agent Groups.
  • Navigate to the dashboard and on the affected view and click on interactive analysis for that Dashboard.
Review the extracted fields ibeing called and find the search string from Administration, Content Packs, VMware - vRA 7, Extracted Fields.
Try to manually search those strings and/or use variations to see if there is a mistake in the strings or search logic.
Interactive Analytics methodology:
  • Filters are a necessity in most environments.
  • Use 'product = vra' to narrow down to vRA events only.
Event Types are useful in filtering and finding vRA messages in context:
  • Use 'Colorize Event Types' to increase visibility.
  • Use 'Events Not Like This' and 'Events Like this' to focus on specific events or reduce clutter.
  • Use 'Set Time Range for this Event' to isolate logs for a time around an event.
For Example, if provision fails, search for Machine name and DisposeVM action.
Then filter to 10 minutes prior and remove the machine name to see all events that occurred prior to the DisposeVM action.
  • Use 'View Event in Context' to view the log message in context within it's related log.
