Purpose

The Dell PERC H730 and FD332 based storage controllers have been certified on VMware vSAN 6.2.

These storage controllers were impacted and are now certified:
Note: Any Ready Nodes that are utilizing the above controllers are certified as of 04/28/2016.

Resolution

  • Update 04/28/2016: Dell and VMware have fixed several issues that were preventing the certification of the PERC H730 or FD332-PERC based storage controllers. These fixes have been implemented, undergone stress testing, and completed certification testing and therefore the certification of these storage controllers and their associated Ready Nodes are now complete for vSAN 6.2. For more information see the VMware Compatibility Guide.

Note: It is required to complete the steps in Required vSAN and ESXi configuration for controllers based on the LSI 3108 chipset (2144936)

  • VMware recommends that servers equipped with the PERC H730 or FD332-PERC storage controllers should not be upgraded to vSAN 6.2 until they are updated to a supported driver and firmware version.
    • For updated firmware for the PERC H730 or FD332-PERC, see Dell Support.
    • For updated drivers for the PERC H730 or FD332-PERC, see the VCG entry for your controller in the Purpose section.

  • For more information on supported driver and firmware combinations, see Best practices for vSAN implementations using Dell PERC H730 or FD332-PERC storage controllers (2109665)

  • The new driver and firmware is also certified for use with vSAN 6.0 and 6.1, and will improve stability and reliability on these releases.

  • The certification of the H730 and FD332 based storage controllers was pending for vSAN 6.2 due to the issue identified during testing.

  • If you have already started the vSAN 6.2 upgrade process and are running these on an unsupported driver and firmware version, complete the installation and then update the driver and firmware for the controllers.
