"Fatal Error: 15 (Not found)" displayed on reboot after patching VIBs using the vSphere Update Manager (2141904)

If the ESXi host that you want to patch using the vSphere Update Manager has live installable VIB installed on it, then the patch staging operation followed by one more live install might display an error message similar to the following on the subsequent reboot:

Fatal Error: 15 (Not found)

Solution

To resolve this issue:

  1. Reboot the ESXi server. The server boots back to the original ESXi build.
  2. Install the ESXi patch again.
  3. After scanning the ESXi patch baseline, skip the Stage baseline option.
  4. Select the Remediate baseline option.
