Configuring VMware Identity Manager fails with the error: Invalid organization name (2135953)

  • Cannot configure VMware Identity Manager.
  • Configuring VMware Identity Manager does not proceed beyond the database configuration.
  •  The error can also be encountered if you attempt to deploy the appliance with an underscore in the host name. 
  • You see the error:
Invalid organization name. Chosen name (null) includes invalid characters. 


This issue occurs when you access the VMware Identity Manager appliance with an IP address in the URL instead of Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN).


To resolve this issue, access the VMware Identity Manager appliance using Fully Qualified Domain Name(FQDN) in the URL and not the IP address.

Note: Ensure that the forward and reverse lookup zone for the FQDN are configured in Domain Name System(DNS).
