Log in to the Admin or Product UI of VMware vRealize Operations Manager 6.x as admin fails with the error: Incorrect User name/Password (2131633)

  • Log in to the admin or Product UI of VMware vRealize Operations Manager 6.x fails.
  • You see the error:

    Incorrect User name/Password

  • The credentials are correct and logging into the nodes directly as admin is successful.


Some adapters require the Operations Manager admin credentials in the configuration, for example the vRealize Hyperic Management Pack.
This issue can occur when an adapter instance has the incorrect Operations Manager admin password saved.
The adapter instance continually attempts a login, causing the account to become locked due to too many failed login attempts.


To resolve this issue, reset the failed login count and update the admin password on the nodes.

To reset the failed login count:

  1. Log into the Master node as the root user.
  2. With a text editor, open /storage/vcops/user/conf/
  3. Delete the line failed_attempts=.
  4. Repeat steps 1-3 on all Master Replica and Data nodes in the cluster.
  5. Save and close the file.
  6. Quickly log into the Operations Manager Product UI.
  7. Update the credentials on all adapter instances that require the Operations Manager admin credentials, with the correct password.

Additional Information

VMware recommends you create a local Operations Manager account for adapter instance authentication.

To create a local Operations Manager account:

  1. Log into the vRealize Operations Manager Product UI as the admin user.
  2. Navigate to Administration > Access Control.
  3. Click the + icon, to add a new local user.
  4. Enter the required information for the user, and click Next.
  5. Assign the user the Administrator Role and allow access to all objects in the system, and click Finish.
  6. Navigate to Administration > Solutions and configure the adapter instances.
  7. Click the + icon, to create new Credentials.
  8. Enter the newly created local user for the admin account.
  9. Save the adapter instance.
