Virtual machines protected by VMware vShield App lose network connectivity on ESXi 6.0 hosts (2128069)

  • Virtual machines protected by vShield App Firewall appliances loose network connectivity intermittently. 
  • This issue occurs when the impacted protected VMs are on ESXi 6.0 hosts. The issue does not occur on 5.x hosts.
  • In the vShield App Firewall logging, you see entries similar to:

    2015-04-09T16:50:36+00:00 vShield-FW-hostname.corp.local kernel: d0: tx hang
    2015-04-09T16:50:36+00:00 vShield-FW-hostname.corp.local kernel: d0: resetting
    2015-04-09T16:50:37+00:00 vShield-FW-hostname.corp.local kernel: d0: intr type 3, mode 0, 3 vectors allocated
    2015-04-09T16:50:37+00:00 vShield-FW-hostname.corp.local kernel: RSS indirection table :

    Note: The preceding log excerpts are only examples. Date, time, and environmental variables may vary depending on your environment.


This issue occurs because the d0 interface on the vShield App Appliance experiencing transmit fails and subsequent adapter resets. 


This issue is resolved in VMware ESXi 6.0 Update 1b, available at VMware Downloads.
