  • 1 Ratings

Purpose

It may be necessary to remove a vSphere vCenter Server from VMware vRealize Operations Manager 6.x. For example:
  • A vCenter Server is de-commissioned or no longer exists
  • At the request of VMware Technical Support
  • To reduce the total number of metrics collected
This article provides a procedure to successfully remove a vSphere vCenter Server from vRealize Operations Manager.

Resolution

To remove a vSphere vCenter Server from vRealize Operations Manager 6.x:
  1. Log in to the vRealize Operations Manager website as an Administrator.
  2. In the left pane of vRealize Operations Manager, click Administration.
  3. In the left pane of vRealize Operations Manager, click Solutions.
  4. Highlight the VMware vSphere Solution.

Note: Take note of the vCenter Server listed and what adapter type it is, vCenter or Python.

  5. Click the gears icon, above the list of the Solutions, to access the Configuration Solution screen.
  6. In the upper section of the Configure Solution screen, highlight the Python Adapter type.
  7. In the lower left section of the Configure Solution screen (Adapter Instances), highlight the instance of the Python Adapter associated to the vCenter Server to be removed.
  8. Verify on the lower right section of the Configure Solution screen that this is the vCenter Server to be removed.
  9. Click the red X above the list of adapters instance to delete the vCenter Server.
  10. Confirm the deletion.
  11. Repeat steps 6 - 9 to remove all the required Python Adapter instances.
  12. In the upper section of the Configure Solution screen, highlight the vCenter Server Adapter type.
  13. Repeat steps 6 - 9 to remove all the required vCenter Adapter instances.
For a procedure to remove an Adapter Instances using a REST API call, see Deleting an adapter instance via REST API in VMware vRealize Operations Manager 6.0.x fails (2123926).

Note: Additional steps are required to stop monitoring additional solutions. For example, if a Storage Solution was configured and was only available in a removed vCenter Server, then it is necessary to remove that adapter instance as well.

If required, remove unused credentials from vRealize Operations Manager 6.x:
  1. In the left pane of vRealize Operations Manager 6.x, click the Administration icon.
  2. Click Credentials.
  3. Select the unused credentials to be removed.
  4. Click the red X to delete the credentials.
  5. Confirm the removal.
