Unable to reconfigure two vNICs simultaneously by invoking reconfigVM_Task() API (2114609)

  • 2 Ratings

  • Reconfiguring two vNICs using ExtraConfig property simultaneously by invoking reconfigVM_Task()API fails.
  • This issue is seen to occur while using, but is not restricted to, Trend Micro’s Deep Security software.

Consider an example that the reconfigVM_Task() API is invoked with inputs for two vNICs and two key/value pair in Extraconfig property with edit operation. In this API call, ESXi 5.1 calls vNIC connect/disconnect once. In ESXi 5.5, vNIC connect/disconnect is called twice causing the virtual machine network to disconnect.

For example:

/* For vNIC 0 and vNIC 1 */
OptionValue filterName1 = new OptionValue();

OptionValue filterName2 = new OptionValue();

/* Reconfigure VM */
VirtualMachineConfigSpec bindingSpec = new VirtualMachineConfigSpec();
call reconfigVM_task(bindingspec) as task object and monitor the operation.
Note: Trend Micro's Deep Security software results in network drop on the virtual machine having two vNICs.

This issue is resolved in ESXi 5.5 Patch Release ESXi550-201608401-BG, available at VMware Patch Downloads. For more information on downloading patch, see How to download patches in MyVMware (1021623).
