Protocol Handling and RDP to PCoIP Migration in Horizon Cloud with Hosted Infrastructure 15.3.0 (2110075)

  • 0 Ratings

As of the Cerrano release of VMware Horizon Cloud with Hosted Infrastructure (formerly known as VMware Horizon Air Cloud-Hosted), when you set up virtual machines and applications in the new administration console, you do not need to select the protocols to make available to the end user. Users automatically use the best protocol based on the client they are using to access the service.
The DaaS end user access protocol defaults to either PCoIP via the Horizon Client or Blast via HTML Access.
As preparation for the next major release of the service in the second half of 2015, plan that connection using native Microsoft RDP client is not supported as an option for end user access. To prepare for this, you must do the following as soon as possible:
  • Ensure that all images and virtual machines are updated to the latest View Agent Direct Connect plugin, View Agent, and DaaS Agent.
  • Modify settings to deactivate RDP use on all assignments in Horizon Cloud with Hosted Infrastructure, as described in the instructions below.
  • The next release automatically deactivate RDP use for all assignments, ensure to perform any necessary plugin and agent updates even if you have not yet changed the RDP setting.
  • If you are using Horizon Cloud with Hosted Infrastructure applications with end user access using web browser with Microsoft RDP, there is an additional service update you need to install before you deactivate RDP. This updates are available before the next release. For the time being, you need to continue to use RDP to access hosted rdsh applications.
Horizon Cloud with Hosted InfrastuctureAccess Point (New Remote Access Appliance)
Beginning in release 15.3.0, customers who no longer need RDP will have the option to upgrade their remote access gateway from the dtRAM appliance to Access Point. Customers who migrate to Access Point can reduce their firewall open ports to 443, 4172 and 8443. Also, Access Point handle SSL certificates for Blast so that a certificate is no longer required inside the virtual desktop. Migrating to Access Point deactivates RDP entirely on your system.

You are qualified for this migration if these are true:

  • You need to reduce the number of firewall ports open for DaaS from a range to specific ports.
  • You can change over to using PCoIP and HTML Blast exclusively for your end user access protocols.
  • You do not need end users to access RDSH applications.
If you have concerns about whether you should migrate, our customer success team will work with you to assess whether you can upgrade to Access Point or remain on dtRAM for this release.

To deactivate RDP for an assignment in Horizon Cloud with Hosted Infrastructure:
  1. On the Assignments page, select an assignment.
  2. Click Edit. The edit dialog opens at the Definition step.
  3. Click Advanced Properties.
  4. Set Enable RDP to No.
  5. Click Next twice to continue to Summary.
  6. Click Submit.
