Cannot log in to the Ruby vCenter Console using administrator@localhost (2088096)

  • 2 Ratings

Symptoms

  • Unable to log in to the Ruby vCenter Console using administrator@localhost or username@localhost.
  • Logging in to the Ruby vCenter Console fails.

Cause

This issue occurs because the Ruby vCenter Console cannot parse the identity source of a username and assumes that any user logging in to the Ruby vCenter Console is a member to the Default Domain configured in vCenter Single Sign-On.

Example:

If the default domain within vCenter Single Sign-On is set to vsphere.local, when you attempt to login to RVC as administrator@localhost, the Ruby vCenter Console expects the password for the user administrator@vsphere.local.

Resolution

This issue is resolved in vCenter Server 5.5 Update 2, available at VMware Downloads. For more information, see the vCenter Server 5.5 Update 2 Release Notes.

To resolve this issue, ensure that the vCenter Single Sign-On Local OS identity source is set as the default domain.

To set Local OS as the default domain:
  1. Log in to the vSphere Web Client as administrator@vsphere.local.
  2. Navigate to Administration > Configuration > Identity Sources.
  3. Click the Local OS identity source.
  4. Click Set as Default Domain.

Additional Information

Note: Ensure that the user logging into the Ruby vCenter Console is also provided with the relevant permissions on vCenter Server.
