This patch updates the esx-base VIB to resolve the following issues:

  • ESXi hosts running on AMD Kyoto or Jaguar or Kabini or Steamroller CPUs might fail to boot. Error message similar to the following might be written to the log file:
    VMware ESX unrecoverable error: (vcpu-0) vcpu-0:NOT_IMPLEMENTED vmcore/vmm/cpu/fpu.c:452

  • The performance chart displays incorrect Throughput Usage values for the following vCenter Server inventory objects:
    • Virtual Machine > Virtual Disk
    • Virtual Machine > Disk
    • Host > Disk
    • Host > Storage Path
    • Host > Storage Adapter
For more information, see KB 2064464.

  • ESXi hosts with the virtual machines having e1000 or e1000e vNIC driver might fail with a purple screen when you enable TCP segmentation Offload (TSO).

  • When you upgrade from ESXi 5.1 Update 1 to ESXi 5.1 Update 2, you might encounter performance issues on the Solaris 10 and Solaris 11 virtual machines with e1000 vNIC adapters.

  • This patch introduces additional Transparent Page Sharing (TPS) management capabilities. For further details, refer to KB 2091682.

  • An ESXi host might stop responding when a large number of virtual machines connected to Cisco Nexus1000v Distributed Switch are powered on together.
Error messages similar to the following might be written to the vmkernel.log file:
    2014-06-05T20:03:18.527Z cpu14:11419)hardPts: hard_niv_port_reserve:2317: Reserving resources for PortID 0x30000fc PortIndex 252

  • Under a highly specific and detailed set of internal timing conditions, the AMD Family 10h processor in 64-bit mode may incorrectly update the stack pointer due to erratum 721. The incorrect stack pointer might cause unpredictable program or system behavior. For more information, see KB 2061417.
