The time stamp on a snapshot image does not update automatically in VMware Horizon View (2074301)

  • 22 Ratings

When a virtual machine powers on after a clock change due to Daylight Saving Time (DST), the time on the virtual machine is incorrect.

  • Incorrect clock time on stale virtual machine snapshots.
  • The time of the master image is 1 hour behind or 1 hour ahead depending on your timezone.
  • The network's Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server refuses receipt of a network IP address.
  • Microsoft Active Directory or the network's DHCP server may refuse access due to an incorrect clock time.
  • Startup of a Horizon View desktop shows this status:

    Agent Unreachable

  • The status of the virtual machine in View Administrator remains when you do not have an IP address.
  • The DHCP pool has available IP addresses and you can manually renew the IP address.
  • Recomposing a desktop fails
  • When logging in to View desktop, you see the error:

Trust Relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed

This issue occurs if the image snapshot is created prior to the DST clock changes, the time stamp on the image will not update automatically resulting in the clock time on refresh or recompose tasks being incorrect by one hour.

This issue is resolved in View 5.3.4 version, available at VMware Downloads and View 6.1 version.

To work around this issue, update the parent virtual machine and recompose the pool for any pools having this issue.

To update the parent virtual machine and recompose the pool:

  1. Locate and power on the parent virtual machine.
  2. Apply any system updates or patches required.
  3. Release the IP address, in the command prompt enter:

    ipconfig /release

  4. Shut down the parent virtual machine.
  5. When powered off take a new snapshot of the parent virtual machine.
  6. Perform a recompose on the pool using the new snapshot.

After the virtual machines are powered back on, confirm the agent status is available and the clock time displays correctly.
