VMware vSAN datastores cannot store host-local and system swap files (2073944)

  • 0 Ratings

When using VMware vSAN, you experience one or more of these symptoms:
  • You are unable to place the system swap file on the vSAN datastore.
  • You are unable to place the host-local swap file on the vSAN datastore.

This issue occurs because the vSAN datastore is unable to host files that are not part of a vSAN object, therefore system swap and host-local swap files for an ESXi host cannot be placed on the vSAN datastore.

Note: This situation is more apparent when ESXi is installed to a Secure Digital (SD) or USB media device, because an alternative location for the System Swap / Scratch is required.

To resolve this issue in your vSAN environment, ensure there are other supported locations to place the system swap or host-local swap files. For example, use a local VMFS volume or a shared SAN datastore.
