Moving Disk Groups to a new vSAN cluster (2073931)

  • 0 Ratings

Details

Moving a vSAN (formerly known as Virtual SAN) disk group from an existing vSAN cluster to a newly created vSAN cluster without decommissioning the disk group, automatically adds the original disk groups to the new cluster. This capability works on HBAs, passthrough controllers, and RAID controllers with write-back cache mode disabled. You cannot use disks that are already moved to a new cluster for creating a new disk group.
Note that, vSAN has the capability to read metadata from the disks and add disk groups to the storage pool.

Solution

After moving a disk group to a new vSAN cluster, you must decommission the SSDs and magnetic disks before you start using them.
