Gathering log files from the VMware vSphere Data Protection (VDP) Advanced agent plug-in (2073798)

Purpose

The vSphere Data Protection (VDP) Advanced appliance is associated with Microsoft Exchange, SQL server, or Sharepoint server and you can gather the log files from the agent plug-in.

This article provides information about the location of log files on the server and to gather log files from the VDP Advanced configuration UI.

Resolution

To gather the client log files from the VDP Advanced appliance agent plug-in on Microsoft Exchange, SQL server or, Sharepoint server:
  1. Log in to the vSphere Data Protection (VDP) UI using a web browser. For example, https:8543//VDP_IP/vdp-configure/.
  2. In the Status tab:

    • Click the Collect all logs to get the VDP Advanced and client log files simultaneously.
    • Click the Collect client logs to get the client log files only.
Note: If the VDP Advanced Configuration UI is not accessible, you can gather the log files manually from the server.

  • Log location: C:\Program Files\avp
  • alg and avexvss log files location: C:\Program Files\avp\var
  • avtar log files location: C:\Program Files\avp\var\clientlogs

Additional Information

Microsoft Windows includes a registry-activated logging service to diagnose Windows Installer issues. For more information on enabling logging service, see the Microsoft Knowledge Base article 223300.
