Symptoms

After you create a role with the specific permissions defined in the vSphere Data Protection (VDP) 5.5 Administration Guide, logging in to the vSphere Web Client does not display the VDP plug-in.

Cause

This issue occurs because an additional permission needs to be added to a role with the minimum permissions as defined in the Administration Guide. For more information, see the User account Configuration section in the VMware vSphere data Protection 5.5 Administration Guide.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, add the permission to a user role in vSphere Web Client.

To add the permission:
  1. Log in to the vSphere Web Client as an Administrator.
  2. Navigate to Home > Administration > Roles.
  3. Under Roles, click your desired role.
  4. Right-click the role and click Edit.
  5. Under Privileges, click Virtual Machine > Guest Operations > Guest Operation Queries to the defined role.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Log in again using the vSphere Web Client as the user with the modified role associated to it.

For related information, see the Virtual Machine Guest Operations section in the vSphere 5.5 Security Guide.
