vSAN insufficient memory (2071753)

  • 0 Ratings

Details

Summary

System memory is insufficient for the number of  vSAN disks.

Example

Depending on the system RAM, vSAN limits the number of disks that can be configured for vSAN on the system. On systems with more than 32GB RAM, up to 5 solid state disks (SSD) with up to 7 spinning disks per SSD are permissible. On systems with less than 32 GB RAM, the following formula might be used:

max-spinning-disks = MAX((RAMinGB - 4) * 35 / 28, 1)
max-SSDs = MIN(max-spinning-disks, 5)

Impact

vSAN cannot use all disks attached to the system.

Solution

If the system RAM is less than 32 GB, increase the system RAM. If it is greater than 32 GB, keep the number of vSAN disks less than 35.
