Support Policy for Internet Explorer virtualized with VMware ThinApp (2069870)

  • 16 Ratings

Purpose

This article provides information about the VMware support policy for virtualizing Internet Explorer with ThinApp.

This article provides guidelines for supported capture and deployment scenarios. Reading the article helps you understand when to file a Support Request or seek advice from the VMware Community.

Resolution

The Internet Explorer browser environment can be virtualized in several different ways.

  • Internet Explorer itself. This is the most common method.
  • Internet Explorer and one or more browser plug-ins. This is used when websites rely on particular plug-ins that should be supplied with the browser.
  • Only one or more browser plug-ins. This is used when every desktop has the same native browser but some websites require a plug-in that will not always be natively installed.

ThinDirect can also be used in situations where some websites are handled by the native browser and other websites are handled by the virtual browser.

Support of Internet Explorer virtualized with VMware ThinApp

Virtualizing Internet Explorer with VMware ThinApp has specific requirements and is supported by VMware Technical Support only when captured and deployed according to the guidelines below.

Notes:
  • This article applies to ThinApp 5.2.
  • For more information on capturing Internet Explorer to be deployed to Windows 10, see Web pages fail to open from ThinApped Internet Explorer on Windows 10 (2137873).
  • Microsoft has dropped support for Windows XP and Windows 2003, and they are no longer supported by ThinApp as deployment operating systems. However, Windows XP can still be used for the purpose of a capture machine only.
