Performing a scripted installation of ESXi 5.5 reports the warning: unknown argument "--ignoressd" to command "installorupgrade" (2059210)

  • 0 Ratings

Symptoms

  • Performing a scripted installation of ESXi 5.5 using the installorupgrade command with the --ignoressd option reports a warning
  • You see the warning:

unknown argument "--ignoressd" to command "installorupgrade"

  • ESXi installation continues and completes successfully, however the software is installed on the SSD drive
  • ESXi 5.5 is installed on the SSD drive even when the scripted install is performed using the --ignoressd option with the installorupgrade command

Cause

ESXi 5.5 does not support the --ignoressd option with the installorupgrade command.

If you use the --ignoressd option with the installorupgrade command, the installer displays a warning, but continues to install ESXi on the SSD instead of stopping the installation and displaying an error.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, use the --ignoressd option in a scripted installation of ESXi with the install command, instead of the installorupgrade command.
