Upgrading the ESXi 5.x host fails with the message: Terminating on fatal IPC exception (2051707)

  • 1 Ratings

  • ESXi 5.x host syslog fills up with the message:

    Terminating on fatal IPC exception

  • The Syslog server runs out of space
  • You are unable to disable logging for Likewise agents

To work around this issue prior to upgrading:

  1. Evacuate the host of virtual machines by either migrating them using vMotion or shutting down guests.
  2. Place the host into maintenance mode.
  3. Remove the ESXi host from the domain.
  4. Upgrade the ESXi host.
  5. Re-add the ESXi host to the domain. If this fails, see Adding the ESX/ESXi host to an Active Directory domain fails with the error: Errors in Active Directory operations (1026538).
