vmrun does not return control to the command prompt while running VMware Workstation (2050353)

  • 0 Ratings

  • When using the vmrun utility to control a virtual machine that is running inside VMware Workstation, the control is not returned to the command prompt.
  • The vmrun command processes the request, but the prompt does not return.

A security software's Layered Service Provider (LSP) could be causing the vmrun socket calls to fail.

vmrun.exe uses randomly available tcp ports. Security software may block it or consider it as suspicious. It can be verified from the security software logs.

To resolve this issue, remove the security software's LSP from the Host machine, or add VMware binaries and VMware folders to the exclusion list of the security software.

For more information, see your security software's support documentation.
