Cause

This issue occurs when special characters like %, &, *, $, #, @, !, \, /, :, *, ?, ", <, >, |, ;, ' etc are contained in names of vSphere entities like virtual machine name, cluster name, datastore, folder, file name etc.
Note: You see similar symptoms if HTTP datastore access is disabled by adding this line to vpxd.cfg: <enableHttpDatastoreAccess>false</enableHttpDatastoreAccess>

    Resolution

To resolve this issue, apply a name to the datacenter that does not contain special characters.

For example, special characters may be replaced with an underscore (_) or a hyphen (-).

    For example, MyFolder&101 becomes MyFolder_101.
