Unable to remove a host from the vCenter Server inventory belonging to a VXLAN prepared cluster (2034808)

  • 4 Ratings

In a cluster with all hosts prepared for VXLAN, you experience these symptoms:
  • You are unable to remove the host from the cluster because it is connected to the dvSwitch
  • You are unable to remove the host from the dvSwitch because the VXLAN vmknic is attached to dvPortGroup and there is no way to remove it, except by manually deleting the vmknic

To resolve this issue:
  1. Put the host in maintenance mode.
  2. Move host out of the cluster to undo the VXLAN preparation action.
  3. Remove host from the vCenter Server inventory.
