Troubleshooting Single Sign On (SSO) issues in vCenter Server 5.1 (2033137)

Symptoms

You see one of these errors:
  • Configuration of SSO service fails
  • Installation of SSO fails
  • Upgrade of SSO fails
  • SSO service fails to start

Purpose

This document guides you through the process of troubleshooting issues with the VMware Single Sign On (SSO) service that is included as a part of vCenter Server 5.1. It helps you eliminate the common causes for your problem by verifying the scope of the problem as well as providing information on installation and runtime configuration of the service.

Cause

VMware SSO is a new component in vCenter Server 5.1 and handles authentication. For more information, see Comparing behavior of vCenter Single Sign-On with earlier versions of vCenter server (2032135).

Resolution

Validate that each troubleshooting step below is true for your environment.
