VMware Horizon View pools fail to recompose after adding an ESXi/ESX host to the View cluster (2031363)

  • 1 Ratings

Symptoms

  • Cannot recompose VMware Horizon View pools after adding an ESXi/ESX host to the View cluster
  • After adding an ESXi/ESX host to the View cluster, the View Connection Server shows storage errors
  • The new ESXi/ESX host does not have access to the datastores, whereas the existing ESXi/ESX hosts have access to the datastores
  • The new ESXi/ESX host can either be available or in maintenance mode

Cause

The View Connection Server requires all ESXi/ESX hosts in the cluster to have access to the same datastores. If all ESXi/ESX hosts in a View cluster do not have access to the same datastores, the View Connection Server cannot access the datastore information correctly.

In this case, any provisioning, recompose, refresh, and rebalance operations fail and the View Admin console reports errors related to storage.

Resolution

To resolve this issue:

  1. Remove the newly added ESXi/ESX host from the cluster.
  2. Configure it to access the same datastores as the other ESXi/ESX hosts in the cluster.
  3. Add the host back to the cluster.

Note: Putting the ESXi/ESX host in maintenance mode does not resolve the issue.
