Provisioning View desktops fail with the error: View Composer Fault: VC operation exceeded the task timeout limit set by View Composer (2030047)

  • 25 Ratings

Symptoms

  • You cannot provision View desktops.
  • Provisioning View desktops fail.
  • You see the error:

    View Composer Fault: VC operation exceeded the task timeout limit set by View Composer

Cause

This issue occurs if the parent virtual machine has a large base disk or if the SAN performance is suboptimal, causing a View Composer timeout before the Clone Virtual Machine operation completes.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, modify the vCenter Server task timeout value in the SviWebService.exe.config file.

Note: Ensure to modify the SviWebService.exe.config file and not SviConfig.exe.config file.

To modify the vCenter Server task timeout value in the SviWebService.exe.config file:
  1. Stop the VMware View Composer service. For more information, see Stopping, starting, or restarting vCenter services (1003895).
  2. Navigate to the installation directory for VMware View Composer. The default location is C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware View Composer\.
  3. Create a backup of the SviWebService.exe.config file.
  4. Open the SviWebService.exe.config file using a text editor.
  5. Locate the entry:

    <VirtualCenter PropertyCollectorTimeout="60" />

  6. Modify this entry to:

    <VirtualCenter PropertyCollectorTimeout="60" VcTaskTimeout="90" />

    Note: In Horizon View 5.2.x and later versions, if you are unable to find this entry, modify the value for VirtualCenter VcTaskTimeout="60" to VirtualCenter VcTaskTimeout="90".

    For example:

    <VirtualCenter VcTaskTimeout="90" />

    Where 90 is the value in minutes. In this example, 90 is the maximum time that may be required to complete the cloning operation.

    Note: From a View Composer perspective, VcTaskTimeout does not have any upper limit and, therefore, can be any value.

  7. Save and close the file.
  8. Start the VMware View Composer service. For more information, see Stopping, starting, or restarting vCenter services (1003895).
  9. If provisioning is disabled, ensure you re-enable it.
