  • 2 Ratings

Symptoms

In VMware Horizon View 5.0.x and VMware View Manager 4.6.x:

  • You are unable to view persistent disks from the Graphical User Interface (GUI).
  • You see the error:

    java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: dn == null

Cause

This issue occurs if an object is deleted from the View ADAM database, but there are still references to it.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, delete any invalid objects from the ADAM database.

To delete invalid objects from the ADAM database:

Caution: Take a complete backup of the ADAM database before making any changes. For more information, see Performing an end-to-end backup and restore for View Manager (1008046).

  1. Open the View ADAM database. For more information, see Connecting to the View ADAM Database (2012377).
  2. Right-click View ADAM Database.
  3. Click New > Query.
  4. Under Name, type:

    InvalidCN

  5. Under Root of Search, click Browse.
  6. Click Data Disks.
  7. Click OK.
  8. In the Query Sting, type: (This query searches for any containers in the datadisk OU that does not have the parameter pae-VCDN)

    (!(pae-VCDN=*))

  9. Click OK.
  10. Click InvalidCN.
  11. Ensure that the objects appearing in the query do not have any value for the pae-VCDN attribute.
  12. Verify the location of the persistent disk by viewing the pae-DataDisk DataCenter attribute.
  13. If you are confident the entry is not valid, right-click the object and click Delete.

Note: If the query in this procedure does not return any results, you may have to manually delete any stale object references. For more information see, Manually deleting linked clones or stale virtual desktop entries from VMware View Manager/Horizon View (1008658).
