Cause

This issue occurs due to a corrupt snapshot on the parent virtual machine or a distributed virtual switch (dvSwitch) is running out of available ports to assign to the virtual machines.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, locate the corrupt snapshot and delete it or create a new snapshot:
  1. If the Composer log shows that the distributed virtual switch (dvSwitch) is running out of available ports for virtual machines, increase the number of ports on that switch. For more information, see Increasing the maximum number of vNetwork Distributed Switch (vDS) ports in vSphere (1038193) and Increasing the maximum number of vNetwork Distributed Switch (vDS) ports designated for an ESXi 5.0 host (2004075). Otherwise, proceed to step 2.

  2. To determine the name of the affected virtual machine, use the Managed Object Browser to view the affected virtual machine object:

Using a web browser, navigate to:

    https://VC_SERVER/mob/?moid=OBJECT_ID

    Where:

VC_SERVER is the FQDN or IP of the vCenter Server
OBJECT_ID is the ID of the object you are investigating

Note: For more information on using the Managed Object Browser, see Looking up Managed Object Reference (MoRef) in vCenter Server (1017126).

  3. Delete the corrupt snapshot or create a new snapshot.
  4. In the View Admin console, select the pool and open it.
  5. Click View Composer > Recompose, and select the new snapshot.
  6. Verify that the Recompose operation successfully completes.
