Database error while reregistering AutoDeploy on vCenter Virtual Server Appliance (VCSA) (2014087)

  • 2 Ratings

  • You see this error when you attempt to re-register the AutoDeploy extension on Virtual Center Server Appliance(VCSA):

sqlite3.DatabaseError - database disk image is malformed

  • Unregistering AutoDeploy extension without stopping the AutoDeploy service (vmwar-rbd-watchdog) causes the AutoDeploy database to be in an inconsistent state. Re-registering AutoDeploy extension in this state results in the error.

This article describes a specific issue. If you experience all of the above symptoms, consult the sections below. If you experience some, but not all of these symptoms, your issue is not related to this article. Search the Knowledge Base for your symptoms or Open a Support Request.

You can work around this issue by manually stopping the AutoDeploy service before unregistering it from vCenter Server.

To workaround this issue:
  1. SSH to the Virtual Center Server Appliance (VCSA).
  2. Run this command to change directory to:  /etc/init.d/.

    cd /etc/init.d

  3. Run this command to stop the AutoDeploy service:

    /etc/init.d/vmware-rbd-watchdog stop

  4. After the AutoDeploy service stops, you can unregister it from vCenter Server.

    For example:

    autodeploy-register -U -a -u root -w vmware -p 80
However, after the database becomes corrupt, you must remove it or replace it with a backup. To replace the database from backup:
  1. Run this command to change directory to /var/lib/rbd/db.

    cd /var/lib/rbd/db

  2. Restore the database from backup. The backups are stored in the same directory with a name such as db.2012-02-22 .
  3. After the database has been restored, re-register the AutoDeploy service:

    For example:

    autodeploy-register -R -a -u root -w vmware -p 80

  4. Run this command to start the AutoDeploy service:

    /etc/init.d/vmwar-rbd-watchdog start
