After upgrading from ESX 4.x to ESXi 5.0, NAS/NFS datastores with a space in their name fail to mount (2013844)

  • 1 Ratings

Details

  • After upgrading an ESX 4.x host to ESXi 5.0, any Network Attached Storage (NAS/NFS) datastores that originally had a space in their name fail to mount
  • NAS/NFS datastores with a space in their name are missing after upgrading the host to ESXi 5.0
  • Virtual machines located in the datastore cannot be powered on
  • Virtual machines in the datastore are in an Invalid state

Solution

VMware is aware of this issue

Note: This issue does not occur if you upgrade from ESXi 4.x to ESXi 5.0.

To workaround this issue:
  • Re-add the missing NAS/NFS datastores to the ESXi 5.0 host.

Note: You need to reregister virtual machines located on the datastore to the host.

  • Rename the datastores to remove the space in the name before upgrading to ESXi 5.0.
