ESXi 5.0 Server Management Tool Support for Hitachi (2004169)

This article provides information about the Hitachi utilities for managing local FC adapter hardware.  The goal of this document is to assist VMware server customers in understanding the extent to which their preferred adapter vendor on the VMware Compatibility List for ESXi 5.0 supports the associated management software and thus is ready to be migrated to 5.0.

Plan for Supporting the vSphere 5.0 ESXi Architecture

Hitachi FC-HBAs are managed on ESX 4.x by two utilities which use a command-line interface. Those utilities are listed in the table below.  They access the driver data through an ioctl interface using a character device.

On ESXi 5.0, Hitachi FC-HBAs are managed by the Hitachi CIM provider. Please see KB article Downloading CIM provider for Hitachi FC-HBA (2001547) for more information.
