Installing the VMware View agent on a physical machine using the command line (2003129)

  • 5 Ratings

This article provides information on installing the VMware View agent on a physical computer using the command line.

The View Agent can be installed either in the GUI mode or from the command line. When installing the View agent on the physical computer, you must provide the View Connection server's hostname or IP address. In some cases, this information may not be requested by the installer when installing in the interactive mode. To overcome this issue, the View agent can be installed using the command line.
To install the View agent from the command line:
  1. Log in to the computer as an administrator.
  2. Open a command prompt.
  3. Run this command

    VMware-viewagent-xxx-yyyyyy.exe /s /v"/qn VDM_VC_MANAGED_AGENT=0 VDM_SERVER_NAME=connection_server_name VDM_SERVER_USERNAME=admin user name VDM_SERVER_PASSWORD=admin_password"

    • /s – Indicates Silent mode

    • /v" <Command line options>" – Instructs the installer to pass the double-quote-enclosed string that you enter at the command line as a set of options for MSI to interpret

    • /qn – Instructs the MSI installer not to display the installer wizard pages

    • VDM_VC_MANAGED_AGENT=0 – Configures the desktop as unmanaged by vCenter Server. VDM_SERVER_NAME=connection_server_name – Sets the host name or IP address of the View Connection Server computer

    • VDM_SERVER_USERNAME=admin user name – Sets the user name of the administrator on the View Connection Server computer

    • VDM_SERVER_PASSWORD=admin_password – Sets the View Connection Server administrator user password.

    • Replace and installation specific parameters within <and>, including the <and> with applicable values.
    • The installer file name depends on the version, build, and if it is 64-bit or 32-bit agent. The initial section of the command, VMware-viewagent, is followed by -x86_64 for 64-bit agent .
    • -xxx indicates the version of the agent.
    • -yyyyyy indicates the build number.
