Redirecting a USB flash drive might take several minutes (1022836)

  • 40 Ratings

When you use View Client for Windows to redirect a FAT32-format USB flash drive to a desktop over a high-latency connection such as a VPN or WAN, the operation might take several minutes. During this time, Windows Explorer might appear to be unresponsive.

FAT and NTFS file systems have better performance than FAT32 when you redirect a device over a high-latency connection. Back up the existing data on the device, reformat the device as FAT or NTFS, and restore the data on the new file system.

Note:  Even with these changes, performance fails to match local USB speeds.  This is due to the way Windows handles USB data transactions, which are assumed to be over a very short distance.
