Connection errors and blank screen when connecting to a VMware View desktop using PCoIP (1016753)

  • 27 Ratings

  • You experience connection errors when connecting to a VMware View desktop using PCoIP
  • You experience a blank screen when connecting to a View desktop using PCoIP

To resolve this issue, perform these troubleshooting steps in the order specified. After each step, verify if the issue is resolved. Do not skip a step.
  1. Ensure that Hardware Acceleration is set to Full. If Hardware Acceleration is set too low, PCoIP does not work. To access the Hardware Acceleration settings, click Display Properties > Settings > Advanced > Troubleshoot > Hardware Acceleration.
  2. Ensure that the desktop user has remote login access to the desktop. If the user does not have remote desktop login access, you experience connection errors.
  3. Ensure that a valid user name, password, and domain name is entered in the View Client connection dialog box. When using single sign-on, you do not have to re-enter authentication sign-on (for example, if the desktop does not join the domain).
  4. Ensure that you are using virtual hardware version 7. Verify the virtual hardware version on the virtual machine's Summary tab.

Upgrade to virtual hardware version 7 by upgrading VMware Tools. To manually upgrade VMware Tools, right-click on the virtual machine and choose Install/Upgrade Tools.
  5. If the Group Policy has a disclaimer and you are connecting through PCoIP, you may see a blank screen. To workaround this issue, connect through remote desktop protocol (RDP) and disable thedisclaimer:

    1. Click Start > Run, then type regedit, and click OK.
    2. Locate the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon, remove these keys:
      • LegalNoticeCaption
      • LegalNoticeText

If the issue persists, see Black screen when logging in to a Horizon View virtual desktop (1028332)  for further troubleshooting.

For more information on configuring PCoIP, see Configuring PCoIP for use with View 4.0 (1018158).
