  • 6 Ratings

Details

When configuring networking for an ESX Server host using at least two VMnics as network adapters and VLAN ID 4095, duplicated packets can occur when Beacon Probing is selected in the Network Failover Detection dropdown menu.

Note: Starting with the VirtualCenter 2.5 Update 6 release, the VI Client disallows such a configuration. For additional information concerning the VirtualCenter 2.5 Update 6 release, see the Release Notes.

This KB is superseded by  Packets are duplicated when you configure a portgroup or a vSwitch to use a route that is based on IP-hash and Beacon Probing policies simultaneously (1017612).

Solution

Select the Link Status Only option in the Network Failover Detection dropdown menu instead of Beacon Probing.

Note: Beacon Probing does not work if the number of uplinks in the portgroup is less than three.
