Details

This article provides information on best practices and advanced features for a VMware High Availability (HA) environment.

Each new version of VirtualCenter Server provides new features that you can configure to change how VMware HA functions. You can configure the features using the VMware Infrastructure (VI) Client.

This section lists the features available in each version of VirtualCenter Server and vCenter Server:

VirtualCenter 2.0.0+
  • Setting the preferred failover host
  • Changing the default isolation response address
VirtualCenter 2.0.2+
  • Changing the default timeout for failure and isolation detection
  • Setting multiple isolation response addresses
VirtualCenter 2.5.0+
  • Changing the default isolation response settings at the cluster level
  • Adjusting the default slot size used for HA admission control
  • Individual virtual machine failure monitoring (Experimental)
For more information on best practices and when to consider configuring the new features, see the Appendix section in the document 1002080_HA_Best_Practices.pdf attached to this article (VMware HA: Overview & Technical Best Practices).
